Rendering Styles

digital paint...photo montage...digital composite...montage technique....whatever you want to call the mixing of photographs, computer models, and other digital imagery to create a cohesive rendering of space. The ones that impress me are those that I at first perceive as a hand rendering, but upon closer investigation, discover it has all been done on the computer. The only thing is, I don't know HOW it was done! For clues and inspiration, I've been looking online to see how others have tackled mixed renderings.

JPRA is a firm Seth used as an example. It looks as though everything is watercolor except the people. Curious...

A SketchUP model was created as a base, and a digital paint and montage technique was used to create the renderings.

The Digital Age

Today, it was unfortunately brought to my attention that the interwebz that I love so much must have a detrimental impact on this planet that I love so much more. All its data-facebook albums, notes & videos; free emails; wikipedia; even this blog, to which I add more and more data each day- needs to be stored somewhere. And no matter how small the chips get, they still require energy to be made, maintained, and disposed of. Sigh, I'm a horrible person.

I was also reminded of my shameful generation which cares nothing of current events. Why? I don't know, internet maybe? Blogs, zines and snippets of facts that can be read quickly between twitter posts (which I take no part in, mind you) and facebook status updates, so as not to take up too much time of our important day. In high school, I hated the social science classes. And being so caught up in the drama of being an anguishing teenager that I never thought politics concerned me. And not to speak for the whole of my generation, but I believe the same was true for a good bit of my peers. Even today, most people concern themselves more with what's happening on their favorite celebrity twitter page then what's going on in the world. As for Americans in general, we are so geocentric in the sense that we believe America to be the center of everything. You know, maybe the internet's not to blame. Well, maybe for the downfall of printed newspapers and journals, but at least not for our lack of interest in current events. Our own country's to blame. We've become accustomed to being the center of it all, true or not, that we forget about everything else.

The digital age ain't all that it's cracked up to be. updated drawing

Sad Sam

Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red
Cryin's not for me
'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin'
Because I'm free
Nothin's worryin' me

Sam the sad samurai got stuck in the rain

True Love Has No Limits

“Love is always patient and kind; it is never jealous, love is never boastful or conceited; it is never rude or selfish; it does not take offense, and is not resentful. Love takes no pleasure in other people’s sins but delights in the truth; it is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes. Love does not come to an end.” 1 Corinthians 13:4

Where There is Love, Nothing is Missing.
- Jonathan Lockwood Huie

I love you not only for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you.
I love you not only for what you have made of yourself, but for what you are making of me.
I love you for that part of me you bring out.
- Elizabeth Barrett Browning

The magic words for a great relationship are, "I love you just the way you are."

Everything's Changing

I've been so busy lately, I haven't had the time to worry about the past....still, it seems as though nothing can keep the pain from rising to the surface eventually.

I went to the Leon Krier lecture at Goucher College this evening... autographed book #2 added to my library. I wish I had been exposed to Leon and his work prior to graduation, I would have had much better support for my arguments defending my work to my teachers, and my thesis would have made a hell of a lot more sense to me. He's a character, he adds just the right touch of humor to his theories, making it interesting and understandable.

On another note, I've taken it as my responsibility to look after the baby chipmunk living outside my door. It's possible the dead chipmunk I found on my back porch the other night was a parent of this lil guy-though it was small enough to have been a sibling- so I've devoted a few minutes each day to collecting the best acorns I can find and leaving them near their home. Nudge brought the poor thing into the house yesterday, cradled in her jaws. Luckily, she hadn't hurt it, I assume she meant for the killing of it to be a gift for me. Well. at least this chipmunk was smarter than the one she brought me a year or so ago, also still alive....this guy found his way outside, whereas I had to catch the first one with oven mits.

The drawings above are from work at SHA. It's been very encouraging to hear Seth's compliments towards my ability to render trees and my keen eye for relationships between objects. Even if he wont be using this drawing (I can understand he needs multiple drawings finished quickly and I just can not meet those needs, as of yet) I'm proud of my work, and humbled by it. I also think it's a little silly that he might have expected me to be a graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and not be able to draw. Not that I find myself particularly spectacular, only that...hey...I spent 4 years in an art school. Why wouldn't I be able to draw something at least halfway decently?

I Like It When You Do That

I like the way he plays with my hair when I'm sleeping...when I wake up, just barely enough, to feel his gentle fingers scratching my back. And then fall asleep, again, safely next to him. I love the rare moment when he holds me in a crowd. Generally not a fan of even the slightest public display of affection, he embraces me as if to protect me and to make it clear that I'm with him at the same time. I love when I see how tender and sweet he really is despite how tough he may try to appear.

I love it when you tell me how much you need me, even when I don't deserve to hear it.

I like it when you do that.

Here lies that son of a bitch not rich or famous

You can be sure there'll be no flowers or eternal flame

September

Do you remember the 21st night of september?
Love was changing the minds of pretenders
While chasing the clouds away

Our hearts were ringing
In the key that our souls were singing.
As we danced in the night,
Remember how the stars stole the night away
-Earth, Wind & Fire

If fall colors weren't so beautiful, I'd hate them....just because they signify the coming of colder weather.

But the truth is, fall is beautiful, and the weather is too enjoyable to complain.

I survived 21

I've survived 21 years....well....22 actually. Tomorrow marks the completion of my 22nd year, and my entry into the 23rd.

You know, there's always been an age I've waited for. Like I mentioned in a few posts prior, you cant wait until you're a teenager, then you can't wait to drive, then you can't wait to be 18, then it's 21.....well....now what?

What age do I have to look forward to? My power year? What year is that again? My 24th? or is it when I'm 24? Ugh....

I didn't even drink much for a 21 year old....

Wishlist

Do the kinds of things that come from the heart. When you do, you won’t be dissatisfied, you won’t be envious, you won’t be longing for somebody else’s things. On the contrary, you’ll be overwhelmed with what comes back. -Tuesdays With Morrie

Key to Life

Life is so frustrating. I look back and realize all the friends I've grown apart from and the people I've lost touch with...facebook makes it worse, as it rubs in your face how much fun your old friends are having without you. There's so much I would have done differently. And looking to the future, I see a fulltime job without the time or money to do what I want. My birthday is coming up, the only reason I want the things I do is because it will make the things I have to do less painful....a better vacuum, work clothes, a car organizer [since I'll be spending 2 hours everyday in it], glasses.....I mean, whatever happened to wanting things that will make life more interesting or exciting? All of a sudden we're thrown into the real world and there's no time for fun. You work 8+ hours a day just to put food on the table at night, and then go to sleep. For what!? Just so you can repeat it the next day?

"The secret of life is gettin up early
The secret of life is stayin up late
The secret of life is try not to hurry
But dont wait
Dont wait

The secret of life is a good cup of coffee
The secret of life is keep your eye on the ball
The secret of life is to find the right woman
The secret of life is nothin at all
Oh, its nothin at all"

~Faith Hill
